Nigel Kipling Wears Richard James

The devil wears Prada and Nigel Kipling wears Richard James. Not a bad choice for either, as The Devil Wears Prada 2 has received much praise for its wardrobe.

The film's Emmy Award-winning costume designer Molly Rogers entrusted us to make a total of fifteen pieces for Stanley Tucci's character Nigel, the right-hand man to Meryl Streep's uber-editor Miranda Priestley.

Working closely with assistant costume designer Jake Poser and the film's wardrobe team, our New York store created fifteen made-to-measure pieces for Tucci's character - five jackets, six vests (or waistcoats, if you prefer) and four pairs of trousers - which amounted to four three-piece suits and a few separates. Each garment began with the costume designers, who visited the store to explore fabrics and silhouettes before Tucci's measurements were sent through for the made-to-measure process.

The cloths used - from Scabal, Loro Piana, Dormeuil and our own house collection - each contribute something to Kipling's grounded, quietly stylish character: a basketweave olive wool, a Prince of Wales check in warm brown summer wool, a tan seersucker cotton, pinstripes in blue-brown and green-blue, a rich red corduroy and a black-and-white windowpane worsted wool.

If you would like to make an impression on the silver screen or elsewhere, contact our New York or Savile Row stores to find out all about our made-to-measure and bespoke services and our ready-to-wear collections.
