The Kim Sunglasses

The Kim Sunglasses

Sabae, in Japan's northern Fukui prefecture, is as particular about its eyewear as Savile Row is about its suits. The frames of these in-house designed Kim sunglasses (and each pair of Richard James sunglasses) undergo 200 processes at the hands of 16 takumi master craftsmen. Then, just one eagle-eyed technician individually glazes and affixes the noticeably slim and light 1.50 Hi-Index lenses, which are also made in Sabae.

The frames are cut from one single piece of specially sourced, softly malleable Japanese acetate, which results in them subtly moulding themselves to their owner’s features and fitting and feeling better with time and wear. Not unlike a Savile Row suit, really.
